studio reformer

The Reformer is the apparatus of the moment. It is a very versatile piece of equipment which can provide an endless repertoire of exercises. When I first started my Pilates Instructor training in the late 1990’s it was also known as a ‘Plié Machine’ as it was used a great deal with ballet dancers. Lying on the reformer can replicate barre work and as you are non weight bearing it is ideal for rehabilitation.

The Reformer has both springs and a pulley system which can aid or challenge movement. At Body Perfect Pilates we have a Konnector System attached to our reformer. So when performing exercises with your feet or hands in the loops you have the ability to work them individually not just together as you find with standard reformers.

The Reformer is a moving object and it can initially be quite humbling learning to control the carriage as you are moving. It is great for literally every part of the body and I don’t think I ever get bored with it. This really is my view with all the apparatus. They each provide so many options for moving that it keeps your attention and provides your body with lots of avenues for gaining greater strength and mobility.
